Puerto Plata

With over 12,500 hotel rooms, and multiples attractions for nature and culture lovers–water sports, mountain biking, and plantation hiking–Puerto Plata is an ideal destination for medium and small events, or incentive trips filled with adventure-packed activities.

  • Maximum Capacity: 700 delegates

Nestled between the waters of the Atlantic Ocean and a majestic mountain range, Puerto Plata is Christopher Columbus’s first permanent stop on his first voyage to the Americas in 1492. Puerto Plata became the first settlement in the New World at La Isabela, before it was eventually moved to Santo Domingo. The region is an ecological and outdoor adventure paradise, not least for being a major water sports hub in the Caribbean: windsurfing, kitesurfing, surfing, diving, river canyoning, and waterfall rappelling, among others. To boot, it’s a hospitable province filled with cultural experiences, including year-round live music events–from jazz to merengue–and a diverse gastronomy scene.

Stroll Puerto Plata city center, lined with beautiful Victorian architecture from the 19th and 20th centuries. Visit Fort San Felipe, built in 1541 by the Spanish. The Amber Museum reveals the DR’s famous prehistoric gem, found in abundance in this area and said to be the clearest in the world, while the Ron Brugal factory offers a tour on the rum-making process. Cacao and coffee plantations tucked in Puerto Plata’s hills welcome visitors, and the nearby beach towns of Sosúa and Cabarete offer a world of beachfront fun, gourmet cuisine, culture–from baseball to a Jewish Museum–and nature attractions, including El Choco National Park and offshore Cayo Arena –also known as Paradise Island.

Puerto Plata’s diverse topography, modern amenities–12,500 hotel rooms, for a maximum of up to 750 delegates–and action packed activities make it an ideal choice for small to medium groups, and for planners who want to incorporate outdoor sports. Unique venues include the 4,000-seat La Puntilla seafront amphitheater, available for corporate events. Our incentive planners can help craft activities to complement your program, incorporating hiking, surfing, kayaking, snorkeling and diving, action-packed canyoning to waterfalls, or visits to the region’s cacao and coffee plantations. Gregorio Luperón International Airport (POP) is the main gateway to Puerto Plata, conveniently located 20 minutes from the city center, and near neighboring Sosúa and Cabarete.
