You may request the reimbursement of the Tourist Card tax through the following two (2) ways:

1.- In the electronic entry and exit form of Dominican Republic (E-Ticket) of the General Directorate of Migration (DGM):

To request the reimbursement through the E-ticket, in the immigration information section you must answer the question: “Do you wish to apply for the US$10 reimbursement under Tourist Cards?”; if you opt for the reimbursement, two fields will be enabled: one to register your Dominican identity card (cédula) number and another to enter a local (non-residential) cell phone number (not foreign).

The DGII will validate the application within 72 hours after its reception and, if applicable, will forward it to Banco de Reservas for the management of the “TuEfectivo” code; to be sent via SMS to the telephone number registered by the applicant.

Once received, the TuEfectivo code may be redeemed via ATM or Subagent of Banco de Reservas and must be used within seventy-two (72) hours from its receipt; after this time has passed, it becomes inactive and the applicant must make a new request through our web portal or at local administrations.

Applicants will have a maximum term from the purchase of the air ticket up to thirty (30) days after the entry to the Dominican Republic, to request the referred reimbursement.

2.- In the option “Request Refund” in the web portal of the General Directorate of Internal Taxes (DGII) or in person at the offices (Local Administrations).

Cap Cana, La Altagracia.  As every year, World Wellness Day is celebrated the second Saturday of the month of June, which on this occasion is consecrated with the slogan “One day can change your whole life”, and with which a series of activities related to wellness will take place in Eden Roc Cap Cana, Los Establos and Punta Espada.

The event will take place on Saturday, June 11 and will be free of charge for all participants, which expects to receive more than 2,000 people willing to change their lives. This day will take place within the framework of the Cap Cana Wellness Weekend to be held in the Destination City from June 10 to 12.

World Wellness Day is chosen to develop a non-profit social project dedicated to better living. The purpose is to motivate people to ask themselves the question: How can I live a better and healthier life, in order to direct the thoughts of individuals and society towards “living well” and to raise awareness of this global movement that has been developing in recent years.

According to the Global Wellness Institute, the wellness industry is now valued at US$4.2 billion. In 2018, immersive and holistic spa experiences continued to gain appeal among travelers looking for more than the standard massage or quick facial.

As this trend continues, a growing number of hotels, cruise lines, tour operators and destinations are specializing in wellness travel and finding new ways to evolve their offerings.

This is why Cap Cana, Eden Roc, Punta Espada and Los Establos in its continuous growth as a Wellness destination, are proud hosts of this launch of the Global Wellness Day 2022 in Dominican Republic as a commitment to promote wellness and healthy lifestyle.

Pedro Castillo, Global Wellness Day ambassador for the Dominican Republic and director of Wellness and Lifestyle for the Eden Roc hotel, invited the entire community interested in promoting this way of life to enjoy this day, where fitness and spiritual activities will take place.

In addition, there will be two halls with talks on nutrition, personal motivation, economics, soccer tournament, cycling, 5K and 10K races, among others, as well as organic markets and a variety of healthy food options.

The Dominican tourism model stands out for achieving the most successful recovery in the industry, reaching record figures in tourist arrivals.

Santo Domingo, N.D.- The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) recognized the Dominican Republic as the number one country in the world in tourism recovery. Zurab Pololikashvili, Secretary-General of the organization, highlighted that the Dominican tourism model stands out for achieving the most successful recovery of the industry, reaching record figures in tourist arrivals.

His Excellency, Mr. President of the Republic Luis Abinader and the Minister of Tourism, David Collado received the recognition. President Abinader stated: “We are committed to the recovery of tourism, recognizing its vital importance as a source of employment and economic development of the nation. The country has shone and now that times and winds may be more favorable, the potential that can be deployed is unimaginable”.

Minister Collado attributed the success of the recovery to the political decision of President Abinader and to the pillars of innovation, entrepreneurship, education, and new destinations, which are the basis for the joint effort between the public and private sectors, which jointly ensure the guarantees and sanitary protocols to guarantee safe tourism.

“From the Tourism Cabinet we will continue to spare no effort to increase this recovery because the multiplier effect of social and economic welfare of tourism in the country, can be seen reflected in the smile of every Dominican,” said the Minister of Tourism.

The meeting, held in Parque Colón, brought together the main actors of the Dominican business community and top representatives of governmental institutions, with more than 500 attendees.

The Ministry of Tourism ensures that the country’s tourist centers are kept open under strict protocols to guarantee the safety of visitors.

Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic – June 3, 2021 – While countries advance in the vaccination processes and world tourism begins to reactivate after a historic fall in 2020, the Dominican Republic maintains the lead and reaffirms its leadership position in Latin America, consolidating itself as a world reference recognized by specialized international agencies thanks to its responsible recovery strategy deployed in a sustained manner since September 2020.

The set of measures contained in the plan has ensured that the country’s tourist poles remain safe places for visitors, with a positivity rate close to zero in the random tests applied at the main airports to incoming passengers.

Among these measures that remain in place are the vaccination of 100% of the tourism service personnel, compliance with health protocols, the elimination of the requirement to submit PCR tests to enter the country, the application of random tests and the implementation of the Health Assistance Plan that covers COVID-19 for all tourists who go to hotels, as well as the implementation of certified protocols throughout the value chain.

The Ministry of Tourism reported last Tuesday, June 1st, the maintenance of the actions contained in the plan and the extension of the time of tourist assistance coverage until July 30th, 2021.

These measures have been complemented with an aggressive strategy to promote the country, agreements to maintain the most important routes and create new routes, and identification of strategic allies in the value chain.

“Additionally, the country is among the first 5 countries in the region for the advance rate of vaccination, which allows it to continue with a policy open to tourism,” says a statement from the Ministry.

Anticipating the effect of a possible new worldwide strain, the Dominican Government reinforced security measures trying to reduce the chances of an increase in infections, as well as the health of the population.

Since December, tourism in the Dominican Republic shows recovery indicators, with May being the best month in terms of arrivals in the last 12 months, which confirms the confidence of tourists and tour operators in the measures adopted by the country.

The sector represents one of the main engines of the Dominican economy. The country has the presence of more than 70 hotel chains, has agreements with more than 100 airlines and the main world tour operators. Dominican airports receive tourists from more than 500 cities in the world.

Santo Domingo, May 17, 2021. – To continue to guarantee visitors’ safety and give them the peace of mind they require to confirm their travel plans, Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism (MITUR) announced the extension of the free health coverage plan, 100% covered by the Dominican government, until June 12, 2021.

In addition to granting a free medical assistance plan for those visiting the country, Dominican Republic is one of the most advanced countries when it comes to vaccinating its citizens, which includes more than 50,000 employees in the tourism sector.

The health coverage plan, one of the most complete and effective plans in the world, is activated when checking in at the hotel and provides comprehensive care to visitors, with medical emergency coverage in case of COVID-19, outpatient visits, hospitalization, medication, extended stay due to medical emergency, specialist care, medication in case of hospitalization, a wide variety of health centers throughout the country, transportation in case of emergency, hospital expenses, and flight change penalty costs

As part of the security measures and protocols to take care of both visitors’ and hotel employees’ health, MITUR validates all hotels, airports, and tourist businesses’ operations with international certifications such as Safe Travels and Bureau Veritas. Likewise, visitors have quick and unrestricted access to the country, and airports and hotels have implemented protocols for the tourists’ safe reception, with designated areas for the care of COVID-19 patients within hotels.

For MITUR, the visitors’ well-being and safety are a priority, so it will continue to coordinate with other relevant authorities to continue strengthening the country’s preventive measures against coronavirus.

Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, May 7, 2021.- Minister of Tourism David Collado along with 15 more ministers and vice ministers of tourism of the Americas established partnership agreements and procedures for relaunching tourism in the region in a meeting called by the World Tourism Organization and led in its inauguration by Luis Abinader, President of Dominican Republic.

Tourism leaders in the Americas committed to jointly addressing the reactivation of tourism, making the sector a priority and adopting international protocols. Additionally, they agreed to emphasize innovation and digital transformation, develop sustainable tourism and strengthen support mechanisms for workers and impacted companies.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Zurab Pololikashvili commended the way Dominican Republic has handled the response to the COVID-19 pandemic and highlighted that “reestablishing trust in travel is a key first step towards tourism recovery, bringing hope to millions of people in the Americas and igniting the economic recuperation in general.”

In his welcome to the Tourism ministers and representatives from throughout the Americas, President Luis Abinader highlighted the role of UNWTO as a catalyst for innovation and synergies and called on those present to strengthen themselves as a shared destination and as a region through unity, determination, focus and joint vision.

Minister Collado stressed that the tourism sector generates employment opportunities for more than 500,000 families and contributes 15% of the country’s Gross Domestic Product. Similarly, he endorsed the commitment “with the Dominicans, with sector partners and with the millions of tourists who are eagerly waiting to visit and know the beautiful destinations within Dominican Republic.”

Among the main topics of discussion included re-establishing confidence in travel, protecting businesses and jobs, and ensuring that the benefits of the tourism revival are felt beyond the industry itself. The working sessions were attended in person by ministers and vice ministers of Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Puerto Rico, Uruguay and Venezuela, and virtually by government officials from Argentina, Barbados, Bolivia, Chile, Nicaragua, and Peru.

The meetings were developed with the coordination of the host country through the Ministry of Tourism of Dominican Republic, with the participation of representatives of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the Association of Hotels and Tourism of Dominican Republic, among other sector organizations.

The summit ended with attendees signing the Declaration of Punta Cana which sealed the commitment of the regional leaders to make tourism a pillar of sustainable development and ensure an effective recovery plan post-COVID.

Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, April 7, 2021 – The Ministry of Tourism of Dominican Republic (MITUR), revealed positive data regarding the recovery of international tourism to the Caribbean destination. In March 2021, the country received 263,857 non-resident foreign passengers, a 56% increase compared to February 2021, and 3.4% over March 2020. More than 70% of these arrivals were American tourists, and more than 40% of travelers arrived through Punta Cana International Airport.

As of March 28, 2021, a total of 3,142 flights from one hundred airlines from more than forty countries have arrived in the country, a 39% increase compared to February 2021. For the first time, in the last week of March, the flight occupancy of aircrafts arriving in the country reached pre-pandemic levels.

“The March 2021 rebound in international tourism to Dominican Republic is a clear sign that our reactivation strategy is being successful. This government’s objective has been to regain the international traveler’s confidence, implementing protocols and effective initiatives with impact on all the tourism sector, and last month’s figures prove that we are on the right track”, said Tourism Minister David Collado.

Other figures that show Dominican Republic’s tourism recovery are hotel occupancy and flight and room reservations. In the last week of March, hotel occupancy reached 70.6%, the highest figure in the last twelve months. The five main tourist destinations in the country registered occupancy rates above 68%.

As far as flight bookings, the seven main airlines operating in the country registered an increase for the year’s second quarter. Additionally, the number of room reservations as of April 1, 2021 is even higher than in the years prior to the crisis. The volume of nightly room sales for the next 30 days has reached historical highs for Punta Cana and La Romana – Bayahíbe.

Dominican authorities trust that as the world’s vaccination progresses, international tourist arrivals to the country will continue to increase.

Report from Allianz Partners shows Americans are choosing Dominican Republic for their spring getaways

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC – March 31, 2021 – New data from Allianz Partners shows that American travelers are flocking to Dominican Republic for spring break this year. According to their traveler survey results, Punta Cana claimed the number six spot on the spring break list, moving up from the number 10 spot in 2020.

As a result of the Dominican Republic’s stringent safety measures and effective vaccination plan, the country is planning to increase its hotel occupancy from 60 percent to 80 percent for Easter travel, further solidifying Dominican Republic as a world example of tourism recovery amidst the pandemic.

“Our country is full of unique accommodations, uncharted adventures, warm, friendly people and now, some of the most meticulous safety measures in the region,” said David Collado, Dominican Republic Minister of Tourism. “As peak travel season approaches, we invite travelers to recharge with us and explore all that Dominican Republic has to offer.”

Between the country’s recently revised visitor entry process via its E-Ticket platform, emphasis on safety protocols, ease of access via numerous existing and new flights, and now increased inventory level – travelers’ much-needed reprieve from winter weather and cabin fever has never been more accessible.

Plan your dream spring break in Dominican Republic

Dominican Republic is full of historic charm, vibrant culture, and, of course, some of the world’s most stunning beaches, including Bávaro Beach in Punta Cana recently ranked among Tripadvisor’s top 25 beaches in the world as ranked by travelers. Ready to plan your spring getaway? Read on for tips on which Dominican destination to set your sight on.

Beachside bliss in Punta Cana. Blessed with one of the Caribbean region’s longest white sand coastlines–a whopping 48 kilometers (30 miles), punctuated with sky-reaching coconut palms–Punta Cana is the land of rest and relaxation by the sea. From boutique villas to all-inclusive resorts with suites big enough for the family, or private hideouts for a romantic getaway with swim-up rooms and private plunge pools, there is room for all. Accommodations aside, Punta Cana’s wide range of off-resort activities, spanning from kayaking to zip lining and food tours, are sure to wow all travelers alike.

In Puerto Plata, adventurous travelers are sure to find their next adrenaline rush. From surfing lessons to canyoning excursions, the region is replete with stunning nature and opportunities to enjoy a remote retreat from daily life.

Travelers in search of a secluded paradisical escape should set their sights on Samaná. Beloved for its lush, palm-filled forests, isolated beaches, and hidden caves, this region is a must-visit. Wherever you decide to stay on the peninsula, prepare for days surrounded by some of the Dominican Republic’s most magnificent beaches and rainforest escapes.

For an off-the-beaten path adventure head to Barahona in the southwest. This ecotourism hot spot, known as the “Pearl of the South”, is home to gorgeous beaches, thrilling adventures like mountain biking, surfing and so much more.

In the southeast of the country, an easy transport from Punta Cana, are La Romana and Bayahibe. From diving and island explorations at Isla Saona and Isla Catalina to fishing and golf, this region is home to enough variation to fill any itinerary.

Relax or rev up from coast-to-coast

No matter which destination you end up in you set the pace for your spring break trip: Travelers can choose from endless ways to spend their days in the sunny Dominican Republic.

Ready for an adrenaline fix? Turn to your concierge for help in booking a local excursion. The options are endless, from zip-lining to cave adventures or an afternoon exploring the backroads via ATV.

Looking to stay closer to home? Take advantage of your resort’s on-site watersports equipment or rentals to try your hand at snorkeling, surfing, or setting out on a jet ski.

Dominican Republic is also a golfer’s paradise courses that offer challenging oceanside holes and breathtaking scenery that showcase the tropical landscape.

When you’re ready to relax, book a catamaran trip with your pod or plan a private dinner for two on the beach. Visit your resort’s in-house spa for treatments like facials using natural local ingredients or full-body massages. Fuel up each day with exquisite local fare like fried plantains, an abundance of fresh fruit, or savory mofongo.

If relaxing by the water is your ultimate vacation goal, pull a lounge chair under the shade of a palm tree on the beach or cozy up by the pool with a good book and good company.

From corner-to-corner Dominican Republic’s spacious resorts and private villas make it easy to unwind at a safe social distance this spring break.
