DOMINICAN REPUBLIC – JUNE 1, 2011 – Dominican Republic (DR) Ministry of Tourism is pleased to lead the Caribbean’s first New York City (NYC) fashion show with distinct Dominican flair on Wednesday evening June 8 in the fashion capital of the world. Dominican designer Lucia Rodriguez’ creations will grace the opening of the 1st Caribbean Week Fashion Show with designs that reflect Dominican heritage, lively history and its passion for fashion on June 8 at THE ARENA, 135 West 41st Street from 6:30 – 9:00 p.m.

The event takes place during the Caribbean Tourism Organization’s (CTO) annual NYC weeklong celebration of travel to its warm, tropical islands.

“Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism is proud to present the first Caribbean fashion show in New York City, the top fashion destination of the world,” said Magaly Toribio, Vice Minister of International Promotion for the DR Ministry of Tourism. “Dominican fashion designers are known for their chic and unique creations that reflect our country’s distinct culture and diverse influences.”

“The DR boasts great design schools like PARSONS and iconic Dominican designers who set global fashion trends during the DR’s two annual fashion events; DominicanaModa and Dominican Fashion Week, attracting discerning buyers and fashionistas the world over. The DR’s leading role in the multicultural convergence of Caribbean fashion in NYC, the epicenter and melting pot for fashions from around the world is very exciting,” said Isabella Wall, DR Ministry of Tourism Los Angeles Representative and CTO Fashion Committee Volunteer.

Dominican-born designer Lucia Rodriguez will grace the opening of the Caribbean Fashion Show held at the Arena in New York City, showcasing her delightfully Dominican-inspired designs on the runway. The DR is home to some of the world’s greatest beaches, hotels, magnificent nature, music and dance, sports, gastronomy and is a popular film location for international television and movies, all key elements linked to fashion.
