DOMINICAN REPUBLIC –DEC 09, 2011 – Holiday cheer will arrive in Dominican Republic when Sinterklaas, also known as St. Nicholas, touches down in La Romana on the country’s idyllic Southeast Coast. The grandfather of the modern-day Santa Claus will arrive at the luxurious Casa de Campo on Dec. 10, just in the “St. Nick” of time to take part in the inauguration of holiday celebrations at Altos de Chavón.

Sinterklaas will arrive at Altos de Chavón at the request of Santa Claus to share “The Christmas Book,” which lists the names of the children who have been naughty and nice. Social media accounts and national television will capture his arrival, highlighting the backdrop of the Southeast Coast’s lush natural scenery and enchanting culture.
“We are delighted to welcome Sinterklaas to famous La Romana to commence the holiday season,” said Magaly Toribio, Vice Minister of International Promotion, Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism. “With award-winning golf courses, unspoiled beaches and various holiday-themed events throughout Dominican Republic’s Southeast Coast, visitors are sure to be charmed by rich Dominican traditions and the area’s magnificent surroundings during this magical holiday season.”
Sinterklaas is a native of the Netherlands and departed from his homeland on Dec. 7, visiting France and New York prior to his departure to Casa de Campo. Sinterklaas’ stay at Casa de Campo will launch the holiday season in the Western Hemisphere and educate those in the west of the rich history of his existence.
Holiday-themed events in and around Casa de Campo will continue throughout the month of December. Some of the highlights include a Christmas Lighting Ceremony on Dec. 10, a holiday concert by the The National Symphonic Orchestra on Dec. 13 and live international music and art exhibitions.
