DOMINICAN REPUBLIC – Oct. 23, 2013 – The Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism is proud to announce the sponsorship of the culturally renowned Dominican Republic Jazz Festival. Returning to the island country for its 17th year, the popular event brings together music aficionados, beach bums, foodies and nature lovers from around the world to celebrate international Latin Jazz musicians.

Dominican Republic’s largest free cultural event to feature globally acclaimed artists

From Oct. 31-Nov. 3, the island resonates with hybrid Jazz and traditional Dominican Merengue soul. Visitors are invited to this free festival to enjoy rich island culture and gastronomy among breathtaking scenery, while dancing the night away wrapped in the island breeze.

“The Jazz Festival is the largest free cultural event in Dominican Republic,” says Magaly Toribio, Marketing Advisor for the Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism. “The festivities are popular with locals and international tourists alike, and we are proud to host some of the world’s most renowned musicians. Music is a key element of our culture and is deeply engrained into our everyday lives.”

This year, the sounds of musician and former New York Yankee player Bernie Williams (USA), Rufus Reid (USA), Johnny Ventura (Dominican Republic), Alex Acuña (Peru), Marco Pignataro (Italy), Richie Flores (Puerto Rico), Horacio “El Negro” Hernandez (Cuba), Pengbian Sang & Retro Jazz (Dominican Republic), Abraham Laboriel (Mexico), the Berkelee Global Jazz Institute and many more can be heard at the event.

The Dominican Republic Jazz Festival dates and locations include:

  • Oct. 31, 2013 – Puerto Plata, Independence Park
  • Nov. 1, 2013 – Sosúa, Sosúa Parque Mirador
  • Nov. 2-3, 2013 – Cabarete, Cabarete Beach

In addition to supporting the country’s historical musical roots, the festival works to bring music education to the region’s youth. Affiliated with FEDUJAZZ and local non-profits, the world-renowned musicians performing at the festival will lead student workshops to educate aspiring Jazz artists.
