DOMINICAN REPUBLIC – MAY 14, 2014 – The Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism is thrilled to announce that it is the title sponsor of the acclaimed International Cap Cana Billfish Shootout.

International Cap Cana Billfish Shootout returns to Dominican Republic

Taking place June 4-11 at the luxe Cap Cana Marina, this year marks the 20th anniversary for the “grand prix” of billfish tournaments. In addition to world-class fishing, a full-week of accompanying festivities is planned including beach parties, golfing, culinary competitions and more.

“We’re thrilled to once again partner with the event and help them celebrate 20 years of success,” said Magaly Toribio, marketing advisor for the Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism. “Dominican Republic has a long-standing history as a major fishing destination thanks to location, as well as first-class facilities and hospitality. We look forward to our ongoing growth and success in the sport.”

The billfish season in Dominican Republic typically runs from April to August each year. May and June are the best months for White Marlin, while August is typically when the largest Blue Marlins are caught. Over the past few years, Marlin numbers have thrived on the east coast due to the favorable environment and the installment of fish-attracting devices (FADs). These numbers were recognized by Billfish Report, which named the country the World’s Top Billfish Destination in 2013.

The tournament host location, Marina Cap Cana, is just seven minutes from Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) and offers five-star accommodations and 130 slips for the competition. The tournament will culminate on June 10 with an awards gala held at AlSol Luxury Village. A portion of event proceeds will be donated to local children’s charities.
