2015 growth rates result in new hotels and flights for 2016

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC – MAY 2, 2016 – Delta Vacations, one of the biggest tour operators for United States and Canada, announced expanded offerings for Dominican Republic based on double-digit growth in 2015.

While the largest rate of increase was in Punta Cana, the travel giant experienced significant growth in Santo Domingo, with room demands up 50 percent from what they were the previous year. The company has witnessed an uptick in demand for rooms in Samaná and La Romana as well.

This growth has positioned Delta Vacations to expand offerings and explore new opportunities in the country. One big example of this is the expansion into Puerto Plata in January 2016. While the current flights are being serviced through Santiago (STI), Delta Vacations has already established relationships with AMResorts, Iberostar Costa Dorada, Sunscape Puerto Plata, Riu Bachata and Riu Merengue – a wide- range of properties in the area – and is looking to continue to grow this portfolio.

As for other areas of growth, Delta Vacations has added ten new properties to its Punta Cana offerings, two new properties in the capital city – JW Marriott Hotel Santo Domingo and the Sheraton Santo Domingo – and the Luxury Bahia Principe Don Pablo Collection in the Samaná peninsula.

“We are honored to work with an industry leader like Delta Vacations to expand travel packages and offerings to new and returning tourists,” said Magaly Toribio, Marketing Advisor for the Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism. “This growth is another step in helping the Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism reach our goal of 10 million annual visitors to the country by 2023.”

Dominican Republic’s tourism numbers are tracking at a median growth of 5.1 percent over the last 5 years, with numbers from the first quarter of 2016 looking to surpass last year’s arrivals. Dominican Republic boasts eight international airports throughout the country, each positioned in a key travel region to ensure convenience of travel, and currently welcomes flights from 26 countries and counting.
