Francisco Javier García is declared “Tourist Personality of the Americas”

Madrid, Spain. 20 January 2017.- The Blue Bay Hotels Travel Awards in its third edition declared Tourism Minister Francisco Javier García, “Tourist Personality of the Americas” for his contributions to the development of the tourism sector.

This is the second recognition received by the Dominican Tourism Minister within the framework of the 37th edition of FITUR 2017, which began this Wednesday and will extend until Sunday.

The first prize was granted yesterday by the Ibero-American Conference of Ministers and Entrepreneurs of Tourism (CIMET), with the “Ibero-American Medal of Merit”.

“These awards are a recognition for the country and the support that President Danilo Medina has given to the tourism sector.”

During the inauguration of FITUR, García said that one of the fundamental elements of this fair is to take stock of the positioning of the Dominican Republic in Europe, which closed 2016 with a 10.9%, level of growth.

García added that in the framework of FITUR, several agreements will be made to consolidate the European market as one of the most important suppliers of tourists to the Dominican Republic.
