Puerto Plata International Airport has been recognized among the world’s top airports by its customers.

Nota Aeropuerto POP Marzo 2017 Ingles(Toronto, March 8, 2017) – Puerto Plata International Airport (AIGL) in the Dominican Republic was awarded first place in the Best Airport by Region (under 2 million passengers per year) category for Latin America-Caribbean by Airports Council International’s (ACI) esteemed 2016 Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Awards on March 6, 2017 – a nod to the airport’s outstanding customer service and ability to accommodate aircraft of all sizes in its well-appointed Caribbean terminal.

Known officially as Gregorio Luperon International Airport (AIGL) and popularly referred to as Puerto Plata Airport, AIGL’s top position in the annual ASQ Awards was a result of the ASQ Programme, a survey which measures customer opinions regarding 34 key performance indicators, including check-in services, security screening processes and restroom quality, as well as shopping and dining options.

“These airports have dedicated themselves to delivering a stellar customer experience,” Angela Gittens, Director General of ACI World said of the results. “ACI proudly recognizes these accomplishments, and we look forward to seeing more effective, efficient and profitable ways of serving the flying public together.”

Winners of the ASQ Awards have been rated highest throughout the year by those who have passed through their gates, with categories designed to recognize the achievements of airports of different sizes and regions. As such, AIGL’s placement as a winner showcases a resounding satisfaction on the part of its business and leisure clients.

“This award, which puts Puerto Plata and the Dominican Republic among the top performing international airports of the world, fills us pride,” Mónika Infante, CEO of Aeropuertos Dominicanos Siglo XXI (Aerodom) said of the recognition received by Puerto Plata International Airport.

“It also reaffirms the guidance of our parent company, VINCI Airports, towards always achieving greater customer satisfaction. We greatly appreciate the commitment of our team and the entire airport community, whose high level of motivation and dedication have contributed to placing Puerto Plata atop the world’s stage of favourite tourism destinations.”

Throughout the year, AIGL is serviced by Air Canada, WestJet, Sunwing, Air Transat, United Airlines, British Airways, American Airlines and JetBlue Airways, among others. Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic is a destination prized for its 100 kilometres of beaches, coastal villages and hotels, drawing in sun-seeking tourism year-round. The popular port city is also a historical mecca, home to a stunning collection of 19th-century Victorian-style homes, botanical gardens, and a colonial military fortress dating back to 1577.

The ASQ Awards Ceremony will be held at the 27th ACI Africa/World Annual General Assembly, Conference & Exhibition in Port Louis, Mauritius, 16–18 October 2017.

About the Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Awards

ASQ is the only global programme to survey passengers at the airport on their day of travel. Every year, the Programme delivers some 600,000 individual surveys in 41 languages in 84 countries. It measures passengers’ views of 34 key performance indicators, including airport access, check-in, security screening, restrooms, stores and restaurants. Each airport uses the exact same survey, creating an industry database that allows airports to compare themselves to other airports around the world. The ASQ Programme also has a feature that facilitates sharing of best practices among airport operators.
