Dominican Republic, March 13, 2017. The director of the International Tourism Exchange (ITB) Berlin, David Ruetz highlighted the benefits of the Dominican Republic as a tourism destination at the closing ceremony of his 51st edition, recognizing its great tourist attractions and considering it the leading nation of tourism in the Caribbean.

Ruetz said that this destination has the highest peak in the Caribbean, the most beautiful beaches, and immense cultural appeal taking also into consideration the recent declaration of merengue as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization Culture (Unesco).

The Dominican Republic successfully closed to the rhythm of merengue and traditional music its participation in the fiftieth edition of the ITB Berlin. The closing gala took to stage the musical wealth of the country interpreted by Ballet Folclórico of the Ministry of Tourism (Mitur), which displayed the best of the Dominican merengue.

In that sense, the Ballet Mitur shook the walls of the auditorium of the “Messe Berlin”, delighting visitors from around the world with their interpretation of the themes “Compadre Pedro Juan” and “El Farolito”.

Dominican Republic’s stand was one of the most visited during the fair, and praised for the beauty of construction where the attractions of the different sub-destinations of the country were highlighted.

ITB Berlin is known as the leading trade fair for the world tourism industry, and in 2016 received a total of 180,000 visitors, which included 120,000 professionals, more than 10,000 exhibiting companies, 187 international destinations, and more 5,000 journalists.
