The country was showcased throughout the match with its rhythms, promotional videos, virtual reality experiences and more

NP RD en juego canadienseToronto, Tuesday April 4 2017 – This past weekend, the Ministry of Tourism of the Dominican Republic through its office in Montreal, took part in the annual baseball match at the Olympic Stadium in that city for the fourth consecutive year, in which the Toronto Blue Jays faced the Pittsburgh Pirates, with The Blues Jays taking the win.

During the match, the Dominican Republic was proud to portray its true colours and culture with a promotional activation space. This included musicians and dancers grooving to the rhythm of Merengue throughout the hallways of the Olympic Stadium and baseball fans were invited to join along and learn some of the dance steps. The crowd also had the opportunity to discover the country’s beauty through virtual reality 360-degree experiences.

The Dominican Republic was showcased throughout the stadium in billboards displaying the country’s breathtaking beaches and scenery, promotional videos on screens around the stadium and radio broadcasts on 98.5 FM radio station. The match was also broadcast live on TVA Sports in Quebec and on Sportsnet in the rest of Canada, reaching up to a million viewers.

“The Dominican Republic has always had a great association with major league baseball,” added Cosette Garcia, Director from the Dominican Republic Tourism Office in Montreal.  “From the Blue Jays team we have three players at the moment who are originally from Dominican Republic: Richard Ureña, Francisco Liriano and Jose Bautista.  From the Pirates side, we have the Dominican players Starling Marte, Gregory Polanco, Alec Hanson, Ivan Nova and Juan Nicasio. We are very proud that this initiative is one more sample of the good relationship between these nations.”

To highlight its association with the event, the Dominican Republic organized a contest through its social network channels, where the 100,000 guests were offered the chance to win tickets for next weekend upcoming games.
