The present demand for the Dominican Republic is still growing: the country has positioned itself as the most dynamic destination in the Caribbean. Tourism revenues for the end of 2016 amounted to almost US$7 billion, with total sector growth for the last 16 years being 137%.

The constant development of the tourism industry in the country has led to a special focus on the hotel sector. At the end of 2016 5,470 rooms were introduced, while 7,300 more are under construction.

According to official statistical data, 2017 shows a greater success regarding the flow of tourists to Dominican Republic compared to last year: 4,299,081 tourists visited the country in the first half of the year, which surpasses the indexes by 6.2% corresponding to the same period of 2016.

In that context, Russia has not been the exception, whose tourist flow by the end of 2016 approached values before the economic crisis, and all, to beat the record in 2017. From January to July more than 135 thousand Russian tourists visited the Dominican Republic, corresponding to an increase of 198% compared to the same period last year.

The figures show incredible growth and are largely the result of the constant work of the Ministry of Tourism of the Dominican Republic, which, as a cornerstone, implements the quality of product, diversification of the tourism proposal and sustainable development.

According to the Director of OPT Russia, Ms. Galina Lyssenko, the Ministry is currently working closely on the tourism infrastructure of Santo Domingo, the country’s historical and cultural center. Likewise, it emphasizes the promotion of the ecotourism provinces of Barahona and Pedernales. There are already many Russian tourists who know the north coast, especially Puerto Plata. We like that our tourists have a unique chance to not only enjoy the paradisiac beaches of Punta Cana, but also to know the rest of the fascinating destination that is Dominican Republic.
