(Montreal, CANADA, March 9, 2018).- Dominican Republic ignited the Bell Centre in Montreal on Saturday, February 24, with a Dominican-themed celebration during the hockey game between the Montreal Canadiens and Tampa Bay Lightning. Spectators were treated to unique Dominican Republic-themed screenings on the ice, traditional Merengue music and dance and even the chance to win a trip for two in the post-match Puerto Plata contest.
Following the announcement that a record number of Canadian tourists visited the country in 2017 – more than 837,000, the Dominican Republic wanted to celebrate the exciting news in true Canadian fashion: during a hockey game! Through a festive evening at the Bell Centre, hockey fans experienced just a small taste of the DR’s fascinating culture and warm hospitality. The interactive images projected onto the ice between periods that showcased the beauty of the country’s landscapes, famous beaches, cultural and historical sites. On the first floor of the arena, The Tourist Promotion Office of the Dominican Republic set up a promotional kiosk, where fans could enjoy live music by a trio of Dominican musicians and a virtual reality experience. Dominican dancers also encouraged the 25,000 spectators to dance the Merengue during intermissions.
During the second period of the game, Cosette Garcia, Director of the Office of Tourism Promotion of the Dominican Republic, announced the name of a lucky fan in the crowd for the chance to win an all expenses paid trip for two to Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic.
