(Montreal, March 26, 2018).- On Saturday March 24, the Dominican Republic brought some much needed tropical heat to The Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa during the match between the Ottawa Senators and Carolina Hurricanes. With activations including costumed Merengue dancers, live traditional music, virtual reality glasses, gifts upon arrival and a beach bar set up complete with delicious Dominican drinks for the entire family, Senators fans experienced a small taste of the Dominican Republic, a favourite vacation destination for Canadian travellers.

Each activation represented a different region in the country. The merengue dancers and the live musicians gave spectators the feeling of night out in Santo Domingo’s Plaza España. The informational booth was representative of the popular eco-tourism destination, Samana and the “beach bar” showcased an all-inclusive experience in Punta Cana. The activation booth also featured a new attraction: A Dominican vending machine that gave fans vacation-themed gifts if they answered various questions correctly.

Also in attendance was his Excellency, Briunny Garabito Segura, Ambassador of the Dominican Republic to Canada. Up and coming Dominican talent, 17-year-old Indira Acosta Jose, treated fans to a beautiful rendition of the famous Merengue song, “Entre tu cuerpo y el mío” originally sung by renowned Dominican singer, Milly Qezeda.

The Dominican-themed night is part of a series of celebrations to thank Canadians for being loyal visitors to the Caribbean country. In 2017, a record-breaking 837,104 Canadians travelled to the Dominican Republic to enjoy all the country has to offer including eco-tourism, historic discovery, all-inclusive relaxation, sporting activities and much more.
