(Montreal, Quebec – September 6, 2018). -The Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism through its tourism office in Montreal was proud to present to the press, on September 4, Pro Golfer, Willy Pumarol, who was in Montreal for the qualifying tournaments of Mackenzie Investments Open. The media were able to talk with Willy Pumarol during a press briefing which was followed by a lunch at the restaurant Les Enfants Terribles, located at Place Ville-Marie.
Willy Pumarol, a native of the Dominican Republic, a young hopeful and ambassador for his country since becoming a member of the PGA Tour Latinoamérica, has been very welcoming to the media. He shared his story, discussed his debut at the Santo Domingo City Golf Club, his favorite golf clubs by recommending the Dominican Republic as a golf destination to Quebecers, as well as his happiness at inspiring other young Dominicans to embrace golf in the hope of making a career of it, just like him.
Willy Pumarol found his love of golf at the tender age of 3, and by age 9 he had won his first national championship in the Dominican Republic. Willy Pumarol is now 29 years old and since declaring professional status in 2011, he has earned a wealth of career achievements and accolades. Most notably, he was the first Dominican golfer to enter the World Golf Ranking and he earned an Order of Merit Post in 2016.
According to Cosette Garcia, Director of the Dominican Republic Tourism Office in Montreal, “We took this opportunity to host a press luncheon in honour of our MVP Willy Pumarol because we are incredibly proud of his achievements at home and on the world stage. Willy is deeply dedicated to the sport and determined to become a PGA Tour champion. Willy is a wonderful representative to help promote golf in the DR.”
Following the media luncheon on Tuesday afternoon, the young golfer left Montreal for Miami, before flying to Sao Paulo, where he will participate in the first tournament of the second half of the season PGA TOUR Latinoamérica, from September 10th to 16th. The Dominican Republic Tourism Board would like to see him again in Montreal next year, for the 2019 edition of Mackenzie Investments Open and possibly at the most important golf fair in the Montreal area, Expo Golf Montreal 2019.
