Santo Domingo a Key Player in MICE Tourism

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC – March 27, 2019 – Leaders from the Hotel Association of Santo Domingo at Dominican Annual Tourism Exchange (DATE) conference announced several developments for the future of the capital city, most notably in the Colonial Zone, the country’s UNESCO World Heritage Site. The announcements include a push for promoting travel for meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE).

To help drive traffic to Santo Domingo, the group announced that the SDQ MICE conference will return for a second year. Taking place at the Renaissance Santo Domingo Jaragua Hotel & Casino, October 7-9, 2019, the event will create a platform to market and bring together hoteliers, suppliers and professionals under one roof. While the event promotes the offerings of the capital city, the conference also showcases other key destinations for meetings and events, including La Romana, Punta Cana and other more.

This momentum is triggering growth in many other event and convention companies, several which of presented during the 20th annual tourism conference. The upstarts echoed the sentiment of the Hotel Association, reinforcing the projected growth potential for Santo Domingo and other touristic areas in the meetings and events space. Additionally, they outlined how they plan to be a resource for companies looking to bring their meetings to Dominican Republic.

New Santo Domingo Announcements

Santo Domingo is known as the crown jewel of Dominican Republic. The city offers everything from deep historical roots that attract tourists to world-class cuisine that has helped it earn the title of “Gastronomical Capital of the Caribbean.” Now, the city is gearing up to become a top destination for international meetings, conferences and more.

Additionally, Las Américas International Airport (SDQ) will also receive updates to help support the increase of flights to the city. In addition to improvements to the parking lots and cargo areas, which are expected to be finished later this year, the public areas, main atrium and restrooms are also to be updated before 2020.
