Montreal, October 4, 2019 – Last week, The Ministry of Tourism of the Dominican Republic through its Promotion Office in Montreal completed its third annual training seminars for industry partners, travel agents and media in Montreal and Laval. The Dominican Republic Specialist Seminars were designed to ensure agents and industry partners are kept abreast of the latest product developments in one of the most popular destinations for Canadians. The sessions included information on popular tourist regions including Punta Cana, Santo Domingo, Boca Chica, Juan Dolio, Puerto Plata, La Romana, Samaná, the Central and the South Region, information on the new safety initiatives for visitors to the Dominican Republic and presentations from resort representatives and other industry partners.

Hosted by the Director of the Dominican Republic Tourism Office, Cosette Garcia, the seminars served as a great tool for industry partners, agents and media to familiarize themselves with the destination. According to Garcia, “The Dominican Republic is a top destination for Canadians for many reasons including, outstanding beaches and resorts, family activities and the Caribbean’s most extensive range of world-class golf courses. Our goals for these seminars are to keep industry partners, agents and media informed on all the Dominican Republic has to offer.”

The training sessions included presentations from some of the top resorts in the Dominican Republic, including, Casa de Campo, Hoteles Iberostar, Royalton Resorts, Majestic Resorts, Ocean Hotels, Whala Bavaro, Blau Hotels, Viva Resorts, Belive Hotels and Bahía Príncipe as well as important Canadian travel partners such as Sunwing and Air Transat. The resort representatives and travel partners had an opportunity to share news, images, and facts with industry partners, travel agents and media who attended.

The seminar also touched on increased safety measures put in place for tourists visiting the Dominican Republic. Initiatives include doubling up on inspections, reinforcing availability of 911 emergency response, establishing a multilingual emergency tourist centre and requiring hotels to have cameras on property.
