DOMINICAN REPUBLIC – June 12, 2020 – The Ministry of Tourism of the Dominican Republic (MITUR) announced that the country is estimated to start Phase 4 of the de-escalation process of the measures announced by the High-Level Commission for the Prevention and Control of Coronavirus and will be ready to receive international visitors as of July 1st.

“The Dominican tourism industry is ready to start receiving visitors in a responsible manner starting July 1st, complying with the recommendations of national and international organizations on hygiene, disinfection, and social distancing,” said the Minister of Tourism, Francisco Javier García. “From the moment visitors arrive in our country, they will find that the measures implemented to guarantee a safe and pleasant experience so that they can enjoy the attractions that have made us the main tourist destination in the Caribbean,” he added.

Most hotels in the country will begin operating normally as of July 1st. Government entities have worked together with private companies to develop strict safety and hygiene protocols that guarantee the health of its citizens and tourists who visit.

The Ministry also announced that the tourism industry’s safety protocols are now available and have been approved by the corresponding public entities. The safety protocols have characteristics similar to those established by the World Health Organization (WHO) to guarantee that the Dominican tourism industry continues being a benchmark for health security in the region.
