Puerto Plata’s crown jewel attraction offers a day of hiking through thick forest, crossing footbridges and passing numerous flora before eventually reaching a rocky hilltop where you’ll begin making your way down by jumping or sliding down a series of waterfalls!
Tucked in the heart of Puerto Plata’s verdant plains and completely off the beaten track, this series of three waterfalls empty into deep azure pools that are also affectionately called ‘God’s pool.’ Reaching here is part of the adventure–you’ll hike for an hour along part flat and part hilly pasturelands, formerly sugar cane fields, with typical scenes of Puerto Plata village life along the way. A final makeshift cable-assisted climb up a short series of rocks leads you to the Charcos de Los Militares, where you’ll likely be the only ones there enjoying these natural river fed pools. Guided hikes to these falls leave from Tubagua Eco Lodge.
