Boca Chica is the prime sailing destination for the south of the Dominican Republic. It is home to the Santo Domingo Yacht Club, with its Sailing School that is open to the general public. Calling ahead is recommended to reserve lessons with the instructors since this is a private club. World-class instruction is available all year round. Boca Chica was the site of the sailing events for the Pan American Games 2003 and the World Optimist Championships in 2011. The Santo Domingo Yacht Club also organizes several international fishing tournaments during the year. The Zar-Par Marina, next to the Yacht Club, also serves sports fishermen and boating needs. Both facilities are located at Playa Andrés, on the western side of Boca Chica beach.
