The city of Barahona is ideally located near beaches, cold rivers for swims, and is less than an hour away from an array of biodiverse parks, lakes, and mountains.
There’s no drive in the country quite like the one that takes you rolling down the Barahona Enriquillo Coastal Highway, on the way out of Barahona town and along the southwestern coast. The Caribbean Sea sparkles turquoise on your left, while the mountains of Barahona tower on your not-so-distant right. Along the way, you’ll pass through fishing villages, and coastal towns where the living is rural and the sparse wooden home colors pop against the wilderness. Keep an eye out for cows–they tend to enjoy this stretch almost as much as motorists and occasionally sit right in the middle of the road.
