Hiking to the summit of El Mogote, the closest peak to Jarabacoa, is a physically challenging but immersive experience. The three-hour climb takes you to this 1,163 meter (3,815 feet) high peak, taking you along a very steep hike through thick pine forests and vegetation and onto steep, rocky dirt slopes all the way to the top. You’ll spot coffee trees and berry fruit bushes before finally reaching the last stretch and arriving at the caretaker’s cabin at the summit. Walk the steps up the lookout tower and you’ll forget your climbing aches and pains: a show-stopping panoramic view of the surrounding verdant valleys and mountains around Jarabacoa, and all the way to Constanza. You can opt to camp here overnight and catch the sunrise.
